The closing reception for Yellow Wallpaper at Unit B is this First Friday (Sept 7), 7-10pm.
The show is curated by Risa Puleo (Austin, TX), featuring work by Karen Mahaffy (San Antonio, TX) and Erin Curtis (Austin, TX).

From the press release:

Aspects of space including the domestic, and by association, the feminine; the psychological, and thus an interior and internal space; and the physical, as a counterpoint to the self, all manifest in the exhibition. Ultimately, the exhibition provides an opportunity to consider Unit B’s setting in a house, and the ways in which we live in, interact with and understand this universal construct.

In Karen Mahaffy’s wall-sized video installation, wallpaper patterns and silhouetted household objects shift against the changing light of projected shadows. Through period-inspired design and decoration, Mahaffy’s haunting elegy hints at the space’s possible incarnations prior to its life as a gallery, and by proxy, the inhabitants who lived there.

Erin Curtis explores the tension between inside and outside, public and private space through an installation of found objects and paintings. Winding tree limbs penetrate the window in Unit B’s kitchen, while a trompe-l’œil window placed above the kitchen sink, provides a view of an anonymous, corporate monolith.
