Description

Katie Pell is creating a new installation that describes some of her most keenly felt separations: those between herself and you, and those within herself only.

Using her baroque drawing sensibility, love of audience intersection and interest in other people’s truly mysterious nature, Katie has used Sala Diaz to make a diagram of what has confounded her for some time.

The artist has lived in San Antonio since 1995. Her projects encompass a broad range of formats, media, and scale; but often address the universal, while confounding what is real from what is implied. She uses humor and metaphor to confront her own struggles with racism, elitism, and the hopelessness of nature vs. nurture, while trying to be good.

Quoting Katie: “Sala Diaz is an obvious but surprisingly rare phenomena, a house reserved solely for the display of art, run by an artist and humble enough to try just about anything. The enduring popularity and usefulness of S.D is living proof that life is easy.”

Sala Diaz is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit space supporting the San Antonio community with exhibitions of local, national and international artists and is located at 517 Stieren, near the intersection of South Alamo and South Saint Mary’s Street in the heart of the Restaurant Supply District. Open weekly, Thursday – Saturday from 2 – 6 PM. Sala Diaz is sponsored by Fluent Collaborative, The Smothers Foundation, The Buddy Taub Foundation, Liberty Bar, The National Endowment For The Arts and numerous private individuals.
