Lawrence Markey continues to surprise with his upcoming James Castle exhibit in cooperation with J Crist Gallery. The show opens Wednesday, May 9, 5-7 pm. A fully illustrated publication with an essay by Allan Gurganus is available. A bit about Castle:

Born in Garden Valley, Idaho, James Castle (1900-1977) was a self-taught artist who created drawings, assemblage and books throughout his lifetime. James Castle was profoundly deaf and is believed to have never learned to read and write. Castle’s artworks are generally small in scale considering he worked exclusively with found materials such as papers salvaged from common packaging and mail, in addition to food containers of all types.
